Fast Food Nation is much more that one should see the inside of an abattoir (slaughterhouse), but does so in an attempt to make the audience take a second look at what your diet is consistent. Super Size Me gave the audience an idea of the impact of a fast food diet, and together these movies have painted a negative picture of the fast food industry.
The impact on the fast food industry of these two films, however, has not been as hard as originally expected. At first, these films helped the public to come to the conclusion that fast food is unhealthy, but in the end, people tend to eat at these establishments.
While both films were well done, and no doubt fast food presents a light undesired, the fast food industry continues. Large companies have a way to get to forgive, and go home. In any event, these restaurants are still visited, but perhaps a different menu option is chosen. The salads and chicken sandwiches are still sick, but at least the burger is not manure, as it did in “Fast Food Nation.
The impact of Fast Food Nation and Super Size Me have had on the fast food industry is indelible. These places were enough of a pest in the fast food industry that the big fast food chains had to adapt and overcome the negative publicity. The impact has been massive, and has led to the restriction of some doses of unhealthy foods, and led the fast food restaurants to re-evaluate their menus.
Fast food restaurants have a stranglehold on the food market in North America, but they had a clientele that was a bit limited. Upon receiving such negative press in “Fast Food Nation and Super Size Me, which not only changed its menu, offering healthier foods diet, but in doing so, now reaching a broader spectrum of customers, therefore the impact on the fast food industry has been probably for the better.
When adding a new healthy menu, the fast food industry just devised a way to extract more hard earned money from consumers. The new menus of light, which prominently feature salads, are the biggest scoring points in the menu. The amount of benefits to be had from selling a combo of salad, grilled chicken, or some other variant is astronomical. The greatest benefits in the industry come from salads, which are seen as a healthier alternative to the traditional hamburger grease and fatty French fries. This misconception is being manipulated by the fast food industry, and this impact is long lasting.
Initially, Super Size Me painted a very negative picture of the fast food industry sales decreased slightly, but have since stabilized. The outcome of Super Size Me was that many restaurants removed their drinks and extra large fries, removing healthy choices. The truth of the matter is that medium and large varieties of potato chips and soft drinks have excessive amounts, but at least the perception is that they no longer have the Super Size, or the size of Biggie.
The fast food industry took a blow enormous potential, and out the other side smelling like roses, and clean as a whistle. In fact right, the fast food industry is lucrative strong now, despite the economic slowdown. The impact has been positive from Fast Food Nation and Super Size Me, but has also lost some valuable customers. But not many.
Super Size Me showed the negative effects of a fast food diet, but many people who watched this movie are of the mindset that if you only eat fast food occasionally is not so bad. They are not eating religiously for a month, so the effects should be minimal. These programs proved to be just like the fast food industry, difficult to digest, but ultimately, only full of empty calories. Empty calories and do not give you enough energy to care.
Until the public stands up and demands better products to restaurants, fast food industry will stick in our throats healthy gut. The fast food chains should be boycotted for a long period of time, enough to make them see reason.
