Expert Insight
A 21-oz triple thick shake from McDonald’s has 21 teaspoons of sugar. Drinking large quantities of sugar every day makes sharp spikes in blood sugar, which causes the body goes into panic mode. Then, the pancreas releases insulin to increase this rapidly. The blood sugar then drops below fasting levels caused by overcompensation of insulin release. This in turn causes the body to release hunger-triggering hormones that induce people to eat more. Keep sugar intake to a minimum, not only can stop this vicious circle, but also can slow weight gain.
